I have a fantastic idea for an auction and was talking to anthony earlier about the posibility of doing something similar on here as a bonus for the launch of my site... i'm going to keep the idea to myself as i have to look deeper into the legalities of it but it could well be a good investment.

These sites that masquerade as auction site but are nothing more than lotteries to avoid the red tape seem to be doing OK. Sites like madbid. they are a bit morally grey though

really not a good idea. for instance, take a look at tazbar. they did a massive tv advertising campaign a few years ago and to be honest most people have never heard of them. also auction sites like these attract alot of scammers. i know people moan about ebay (me included) but i wouldn't use any other auction site because its a waste of time as there are more sellers than buyers. i dont think it matters how much advertising you do, people are ebay all the way.

Is that right?

I'm no Ebayer, but a lot of our customers are and so is Aadil for personal things. One thing I keep hearing is that how people are fed up with them.

Surely if a true competitor did come along with the right site, branding, advertising package people would take notice and take a plunge....if the fees were minimal of course.

Ebay have the market cornered....but with what they are charging I feel that people would jump ship if the opportunity was right.

What do you all think?

Buyers don't care about fee's.

They care about what they're buying, and they feel safe with eBay, that is something which a huge amount of money will still struggle to buy.

Well ive purchased a domain and hosting, once thats cleared I will be purchasing the auction software.

I do think that with a lot of hard work and pumping all the revenue back into it I may be able to make something of it.

Obviously Ebay has been around for a long time and definitely some of the larger and older sellers on Ebay will stay where they are but many of the smaller sellers that may be struggling on Ebay with the low item values, large competition and high fees are always looking for somewhere else to sell.

I remember one thing which I was told when we had a speaker at school and he said "If you set your mind to something and never give up, anything is possible"

Brendan

It's a tough market, but if you can come up with something slightly different people will take notice. eBay has been going since the start of the Internet and is available in every country. People might moan about it, but it is still a good shopping site which sometimes beats the high street for convenience and price.

yes it is right.

its about the customers not the sellers! why would customers care about the amount of fees sellers have to pay? they just want an item right? its not affecting them to pay paypal. as many sellers can jump ship from ebay BUT ask YOURSELF, how many buyers will? as people on this thread keep saying customers are comfortable with ebay even Aadil, so why would they jump ship? better the devil you know.............

Lol
