Thinking About Starting Auction Site
I pop into this section from time to time and all I ever see are people saying about high fee's or their strict rules causing listings to be removed or accounts banned.
For the last few weeks I have been considering opening my own auction site with a base auction price of £0.50 with no FVF, low price extras and shops from just £10 per month. Also I was thinking about offering all TWF members with 50+ posts free standard listing to try and kick start the site.
Obviously advertising is a big issue as nobody will spend time listing if nobody is there to buy so I was hoping that in return TWF members would provide a link to my auction site if they sold on somewhere like Ebay, I have also been promised a Local Press Release from my local EBP and am able to get printed leaflets aswell as possibly advertising on Facebook and other places.
Really I just want some opinions and if some would actually help get it started by listing auctions if we go ahead and any features you like on Ebay that you would like to see.
I will be seeing my business partner tomorrow to discuss the idea and if all goes to plan we could be online within a few weeks.
Thanks
Brendan

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
There are tons of auctions sites out there. One includes eBid. If sellers on eBid can't sell anything, then how will they be able to sell on yours?

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
Maybe, offer free auctions when you launch to a certain group of people for like a month.
This will get a lot of sellers, and will make it busy. For example if you gave free listing to all TWF members for the first week/month of your launch.

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
To be honest and to the point, it's a waste of time.
The only way I ever see it working is if you target a specific market. Even then, the odds won't be in your favour.

That's a good way of getting started. You'll receive a huge amount of interest from sellers.
But, where are the buyers?

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
I have been promised a press release in the Local paper from the EBP, I looked into my local paper and it gets read by roughly 100,000 per week.
I can also get leaflets printed to hand out and I will advertise to people here and hopefully Facebook.
I admit it wont be a walk in the park but with a bit of determination and some support from sellers it will hopefully slowly take off.

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
Just with some facts. Traffic wise TWF gets the same figures as Ebid. and ebid isn't particularly successful sales wise for sellers
But i wish you the best of luck

Re: Thinking About Starting Auction Site
How to start a Auction site - but I think you will be pushed.
If you look at some of many existing sites they have very few sellers - so consequently no buyers..
