Seller Protection on eBay with Rare 20p Coin
Hi guys,
I have just sold one of those undated 20p coins on eBay for £225, however the funds are being held by PayPal.
The person is from the UK, but has an African name, not being racist but this always causes alarm bells,
They also only have 5 prior feedback, none within the last 90 days,
I will send the item via Royal Mail Special Delivery,
However what's to stop the buying receiving it and claiming it was an ordinary 20p and starting a dispute,
This I'm sure would most likely result in him keeping my rare 20p and him getting a full refund!
Please help me out guys
Thanks

Good question!
I suspect quite a few sellers are in the same position. PayPal are normally only interested in whether the item is 'delivered' or not. You have chosen Special Delivery which is definitely a smart move as anything less would almost certainly sink your chances of winning a claim, if it goes down that route.
It might be wise to contact PayPal and quiz them directly over this. I can't imagine something like this is in their terms, unless they account for the sale of rare coins/collectables, which I guess this applies to.
You may have to take your chances. Nice margin by the way.

Re: Seller Protection on eBay
Give paypal a call and ask them, get whatever answer they give you in writing and go from there.

Re: Seller Protection on eBay with Rare 20p Coin
Do you guys think it would be easier for me to reject the payment,
And offer it as a second chance to second bidder, who has 177 positive 100% feedback?
Also would I be allowed to do this?
Thanks,
Frank

You could just act dumb. Message and tell him, paypal have held your funds and you aren't going to send it as you didn't realise they could do this.
Tell him you can refund it and he can pay by cheque, postal order or bank transfer if he likes.

Re: Seller Protection on eBay with Rare 20p Coin
Another one sold for £7500, whether it was really bought is another matter.
Regarding worrying about the buyer claiming a standard 20p was sent, maybe you need to get a signed declaration from at least one independent witness they saw you pack it and send it and send a copy with the coin, keeping the original for yourself. That way you at least have some evidence to back your version.

Thanks lighthousedirec!
Well if he says no to a direct bank transfer or cheque order,
I'll be sure to give this a go
Cheers!

I understand your problem, but saying it could be dodgy because he is from the UK with an African name? grow up
