Re: eBay swamped with Chinese sellers
It's illegal to register as a UK company unless you're based in the UK.
And they'll say whatever gets sales on their listings. I'd never buy from China on eBay, prefer to put my money into the UK economy.

I dont think this will make a difference. Almost all of the Chinese sellers I have researched all have decent DSR's 4.8+!

If you aren't really in the know and you see a Fred Perry polo for £13.99, your going to opt for that as opposed to the authentic stuff for £30-40.

I have also found fake Sony items and reported them as it was driving me round the bend.

What should be done, is not completely remove Chinese listings, because greedy eBay would never do that. But just relegate the listing due to the fact that the seller is not based in the UK, much like eBay does when an OTT postage cost is added.

Re: eBay swamped with Chinese sellers
In my opinion I think eBay should change the way the search system works. The default should be UK only, and you should have to click a setting to show worldwide sellers.

You don't have to be a UK resident to register a UK company. You can set up the company using a PO box. The directors have to give their address but they can live anywhere.

This is a brilliant idea. What are the chances of eBay doing it though?

They'd have to be trading in the UK for this to be true. So yes, technically someone in China could set up a UK company, but they'd have to be trading here.

Re: eBay swamped with Chinese sellers
Well they are trading here, by selling products here, and I presume they set up a VO to have in the UK (I'm assuming this would count?)

Why? Competition is competition regardless of where it's from. We are in 2009 and have access to this thing called the WORLD WIDE web.
If you can get an item from HK or China cheaper and are prepared to wait 14 days for the privilege, why should a customer be forced to buy from the UK by default?
