Just received my first Amazon feedback (after 6 sales no less) and he gave me 4/5 stars despite leaving this:

"very prompt on delivery and replying to enquiry product as described, great"

So what was the problem? Where's my other star? Honestly. Now I show up as a four star seller because it's the only feedback i've been given so far.

Miffed.

lol absolute pisstake, not much you can do about it though, just try to move on and make more sales and get more feedback from buyers who aren't idiots.

Count yourself lucky. After dozens of sales on Amazon I still haven't had any feedback. Amazon have just suspended my payments account for 30 days pending a review because my rating is still officially zero!

That is really s****y. Do you prompt feedback? I write a little note on the packing slip highlighting the feedback process but it's not done much good.

4/5 is good believe me... and we've seen it all..

TBH you've got to be selling in serious volume on Amazon if you want to establish yourself. 1/6 buyers will leave feedback on Amazon as a rule of thumb. Negative and neutrals will kill you off very quickly. It's taken us 18 months or so to be in a comfortable position where we can absorb half a dozen negs/neutrals a month. One major slip up and that can be the end - doesn't matter how big or small you are. Pixmania can testify to that - 100,000+ feedbacks a couple of bad months and bang they were gone.

Wow! can't believe Pixmania have been thrown off Amazon. They are massive, same company as Currys & PC World. If they can't get it right what chance is there for the rest of us.

Well I must say if you're going to send out European goods without UK adapters, English instructions, not provide timely refunds and not employ someone to answer customer queries then you're fighting a losing battle.

This is the problem larger companies face - the margins for error on Amazon and eBay are so slight these days these marketplaces need a trained full time person/team dedicated to them and manged properly - they're not just "order queues" to be taken for granted.

We've only just had our Amazon sales kick into hypwerdrive in the last month.

Initial feedback was very slow and one of the first we received was along the lines "very good service - would use again". Yes, you guessed it, only four stars.

Don't worry too much about the low feedback. Amazon's feedback is nowhere near as regular as eBay. We've sold five or six hundred items now and have feedback of 24 (4.9 average).

One thing to watch out for is Amazon's systems causing you problems. This morning I received an order that was placed on 24th August. Due to payment problems, they only gave us the go-ahead to ship it today. Funnily enough, they have already marked it as a "Late Shipment" and this will show in our seller metrics. They told me on the phone that their people will know what caused this and it will not cause us a problem. It is still quite annoying.

Their systems are far from perfect, but they expect the MarketPlace sellers to be better.
