Default Ebay fees & Templates

Hi Ive recently been researching wholesale so I can start off doing some ebay trading for the past couple of weeks, howvere I havn't sold anything on ebay for some years.

I found a product, or a few products which I'm going to make into a do it yourself kit. They sell exremley well on ebay and theres only a handfull of people who specialise in them, so I dont need to worry about where my item rates in 20 pages of the same product. I dont know if its because they also are building the kits themselves, since I cant find a wholesaler who deals in them.

So after laboriously finding suppliers of each individual item, and costing the whole project I found I could make a decent amount of profit on each kit since I believe they will guarantee a sale if:I give a better service, money back gaurantee, use better quality products, give extras... etc

But then I used an ebay calculater and found out Ebay fees along with paypals will eat up most of my profit, I think I'd be lucky to break even at this point!

I suppose I could dig deeper to find cheaper suppliers for the materials, but having done a fair bit of reaearch its only going to be a few quid here and there and between ebay and paypal I can kiss goodbye to almost 15% of the final selling fee! I find this outrageous considering ebay is only a middle man, and if the item doesnt sell ill still be charged 5% on top of the listing fee.... but I'm sure this has all been discussed before...

So I am seeking advice on alternative payment options, do they work? do buyers trust them or would they just prefer to avoid the hassle of exploring them? Will I lose to my competitors?

Also to save money on listings... can I use templates and images for free in the HTML option? or will I be charged for an image in the main point of sale " Describe the item you're selling" passage. Since this can be manipulated to add as much graphics as I wish... if I can insert images here I could at least save a few quid.

Any info appreciated in advance, thanks. Mike.

If you sell on eBay you have to accept Paypal, its now in eBays policy!

You can use html for templates and images done in this way are totally free.

As has been said you need to offer paypal to your customers and it does cost you which will need to be factored into your price. I think most customers will chose to pay via this method as it is so quick and has some element of protection for them.

Although Paypal is the most popular method of payment, its still worth accepting Cheques, Postal orders, Bank Transfer etc. I get cheques and postal orders through the post on a daily basis. Sales that I would have lost if I only accepted Paypal.

As ststed using a template will mean that you can add as many images as you want for free.

Sorry guys a newb myself, are you saying that by using a template this gets round the extra charges Ebay put on additional photos ?

If so would this apply to templates supplied by Auctiva for example

Thanks in advance

You can put as many photos as you wish to, even with Auctiva templates.
