Parcelforce isn't affected, but Next Day Special Delivery is. There was a notice from the Royal Mail in the newspaper yesterday.

What does it show on EMS? Does it say it has left the country or only been accepted from the factory? Best to contact your supplier as if it doesnt say arrived at UK then it's still with EMS.

Re: any one expecting a slow down this week due to strikes
The postal workers union have decided to go for a three day strike next week at the mailing sorting centres, really bad news. Personally I think this will cause a lot of buyers to switch to buying from actual shops, many will believe they will not receive goods due to the strikes.

Re: any one expecting a slow down this week due to strikes
Everything I post goes through the Thames Valley sorting office in Swindon. They were already behind before the strikes, and its now even worse.
They interviewed the Union rep on the news last night. He didn't have good news. What he basically said, is that if they go on a 3 day strike next week, they will be NO possible chance of them clearing the backlog before christmas. They then said that if Royal Mail brought in temps that took overtime away from perminant staff, that would be a good excuse to strike again!
Personally, I can see Royal Mail being privatised after the next election. Or if this dosen't happen, then the 'playing field' being opened up for other companies to offer letter delivery to domestic residence.

Makes me want to go and protest against the strike, no employees should ever have such a stranglehold on their company. Why Royal Mail can't just get rid of them is beyond me.

I think you will see huge redundancies mid next year, and part of the RM reasoning will be the damage done to the company by these strikes, but the lemmings have played right into RM's hands. They will go the same way as the miners, anyone remember the miners?

Re: any one expecting a slow down this week due to strikes
This is the latest from the RM website :-
Delivering mail – We’ll continue to prioritise and deliver Special Delivery™ and Royal Mail Tracked™ mail on strike days, however the nature of the CWU action means we cannot guarantee to do so. In order to provide customers with clear guidance on service, we have removed the Special Delivery guarantee for items posted yesterday and today, Friday 23rdOctober. We will restore the guarantee of delivery as soon as we can be sure we can honour the service promise, which we expect will be by Monday 26th October.
We posted out all of our packages by Special Delivery yesterday, based upon their statement that the management would ensure that these would be delivered. So much for that!!!
All of our normal letter-type packages in envelopes are being held by us and marked as "despatched". I know it's a bit cheeky, but we will hand the sacks in to our Post Office tomorrow or Monday. New items entering the system usually get priority over stuff that has been caught up in the problems - that's what our postman told us anyway.
