will this really affect bedroom sellers? as an example, my catalogue is mostly second-hand and used video games - looking at buy.com's US store, i searched for gears of war (a good xbox 360 game) - they only have new copies. i can easily beat them on price with excellent condition used copies, which they, by definition of their business model, won't be able to get hold of.
my only worry is that it will be harder for buyers to find my items or that best match will be tweaked to favour buy.com items.
I'm been thinking of adding a subtitle to my auctions:
"Support small independent ebay businesses: see inside"
and then have at the bottom of my description something like
"Do you like ebay's diversity of goods and prices? These are down to small independent ebayers,
many of whom work hard to earn a little money through hard times. Please support small
independent ebay sellers."
I wouldn't mention buy.com because ebay might decide it's against their terms and conditions to
mention another ebayer disparagingly. It would cost a little extra for subtitles, but it would be visible. Maybe it could be turned into a campaign?
"Guys, just read through this and was literally about to start my busines with my first purchase.
Obviously now reading this i am a tad nervous, do i need to worry ? in time i dont want to be a bedroom seller but initially will be starting part time ?"
Buy.com themselves allow people to sell on their site (Like Amazon) so maybe, if they launch a new UK platform, Buy.com will be ebay new competitor.....
Or at least it will open up another sales avenue.
