Maybe one of you e-bay veterans can answer something which has been bugging me.
On the e-bay bid history page, I frequently see buyers out-bidding themselves. Can't figure why anyone would do this. Am I reading the info wrong? Is this a seller pushing the price up, or am I being super-sceptical?

if you set your max bid at £10 when an item is currently at £2 then if another buy comes along and bids £4 it will show on the history as if you have bid it up to £4 as you are still the highest bidder

is that not only if it shows double but the price bid stays the same?
