Feedback score and price are usually the two things most buyers look for on ebay, as long as your listing isn't a wall of text and contains all relevant information then there will be very little difference in using a template.

A paid template will not hinder your sales and normally increase them(even templates can be bad which is why I meantioned paid.) It's up to you to decide if it's worth it.

I personally don't use a template, while it would be nice, I believe simply having all relevant information in a small bite-size form is best, or atleast I don't believe paying £50-100 for a good template justifys the almost marginal increase in sales.

Thanks for your input!
I also thought that I will just see how far I can go without using a template and just simple clean text.
If it doesn't lead anywhere, I can always decide to use a free template or something.

I made my own template but I first checked a few auction and free templates to get an idea of what I wanted/could do ...

Here is a source for simple but good base templates, if you know HTML a little, it's easy to modify and get the look or feel you want!

I've signed up with Auctiva free trial - their templates are ok and they have loads. I think the templates remain free even if you don't sign up for a paid service (someone please correct me if I'm wrong with that).
