Default Ebay store vs Regular ebay membership

I was wondering some forum members opinions on whether or not it is a good idea to start an ebay store or to just sell on ebay as a regular member.

What is your preference and why?

Also if you do suggest getting an ebay store, which level would you recomend?

In your experiance which store level has had the most "bang for the buck"

Also, What selling methods on ebay have you found to be the most profitable ? auction or buy it now?

Lenth of time item is listed ?

any response to any of these questions would be great.

I have my own opinions on these questions but am curious to hear the advice of my peers.

cheers peers,

I always advise to get an Ebay Store as it offers a great flexbility and number of options to add to your selling offer. Always support the store with non store listed items though.

As for which store it completely depends on what you want/can successfully cover from a cost perspective.

Auction format always, BIN does have its place but BIN prices tend to suggest an overcrowded market (not always) as sellers try to undercut etc. Excessive BIN's in a category tend to suggest, IMO, that the market is saturated and hence not worth playing in.

7 days is the premium listing time in my experience but is very product specific.

You can keep your secrets. some people on this forum are so bloodthirsty for money and keeping what they do to themselves.

a bit off topic, anyways...

In my experiance and research, auction sales on ebay have a higher sales rate due to the fact that you can start the action with a reserve set at the lowest amount that you are willing to part with the item at. That is not to say that buy it now sales do not have their place. 7 day auctions are my preference because in my opinion i do not think that it is worth it for the extra charge for the 10 day option. One of the most important things that i have learned with online sales is that pictures are worth more then words, crappy pictures yeild crappy profits. Common sense to most, revelation to others, Making the customer feel like they are getting a real deal, and as comfortable as possible with making transactions with your company will keep them comming back.

I think it depends on your product, if you are selling something you know will probably sell and there are a lot on ebay then normal listings are good, especially with the high % of fees ebay have put on shop items. If you are selling an item which is rare on ebay so wont yeald many searches then maybe a shop is the right way to go, you can have the listing for as long as you like till it sells so when the right buyer does come along you will get the money you want (-10%,8%,6% etc)
