Hi, I am new to all this now and I am slowly starting my eBay store. My main problem is keeping track of whats outgoing and incoming. So far I think I am making things hard for myself as I have set out 3 Excel spreadsheets.

One for sales with profit on each item.
One for P&P supplies and Materials
One for stock

The sales one states what I have sold and also the deductions such as paypal, ebay and posting it

The supplies is just a simple sheet with all the envolopes, bags and tape i buy

the stock is the tricky one as i buy wholesale but the more i buy the cheaper it gets and also i have to pay postage ontop so working out each individual items profit can be time consming.

I'm just seeing if there is a faster and easy way to basically show the tax man my profits and also let me keep track on whats best to sell and whats best to not restock.

Cheers :)

I've really seen the lengths an established competitor will go to in throwing a spanner in the works of a fledging business this past few weeks.

As a few on here will know we're opening a Pet Supplies store. A guy who has been running for about fifteen years in the same town has done everything possible to derail this process. Threats have filtered through to us, threats of a severe nature.

He's badgered our supplier, telling them he's finished with them if they supply us. Then blackmailing them saying that he'll not honour payment of his account.

None of this worked. Yesterday I learned that he told them that I was a conman who had started businesses before and screwed the supplier. As he doesn't know me from adam he made up a name which threw the supplier of.

The supplier rang a large Petshop in the Rep. of Ireland whom would be their best customer. Coincidently the owner of the Petshop is someone I had done construction work for and I'm now friendly with and had been advising me all along.

He set the record straight. It took every ounce of my will power to stop me from heading up to his store yesterday and knocking him around the aisles a bit, unfortunately this would play into his hands as well.

Has anyone else experienced anything like this or is this guy just a one in a million asshole?

Just wondering what you would do in my situation.

I am a very first time importer and finally decided on what I want to bring into this country. However, when it comes to registering I really have two options, to do...or not to do...that is the question!

So I plan on importing and selling through auctions and other established online outlets. So I was thinking.. for example, I think I can get by customs ordering 10 of this and 10 of that here and there, but for larger orders 50's and 100's then I'm sure I'll be caught by customs.

So what do you suggest I do? should I just keep ordering 10's and hope to get by customs, that way I don't pay in customs fees and also sales tax on orders? or should I register my company?

Thanks any help would be appreciated!

Lets say in the first year I make a £1000 loss by buying stock, items for office, listing fees, hosting fees etc...

If I had not been in business I would have paid £2,705.00 on the full £20000 salary.

Am I right in thinking that as I lost a £1000 to business expenses that I would only pay tax on £19000 (£2,505.00) and the difference (£200) would come back to me as a tax rebate?

Thanks

He has came across a company who make tents. Not normal tents though. They are white with a big red cross on it. Designed to look like the England Flag. I have looked around on ebay, internet and seen no one else doing this. These will be good for events and especially the football world cup.

We all know how england fans love their flags/merchandise and in South Africa there are going to be designated camp sites all around. They even print your teams name or slogan on it. Its not just a flag over a tent its actual design is a st geroge's flag.

It may be a stupid idea, and i just wanted to see what everyone has to say about this, do you think it could be profitable

I have thought of this idea... I'm not going to pursue it myself, but would be glad if someone else look the idea under their wings.

The idea would be a site that either gave postage stamps away for free (obviously limiting the amount each individual can get) or selling them at a much reduced rate, say 75% off.

It may look like the person running this venture is in for a huge loss, but I am sure this would get HUGE amounts of traffic. Because of this reason, companies could advertise on the majority of the page, allowing for the income to come through advertising. I know I would use this site for discounted postage, and I am sure that everyone on this forum would use it, and I can't see why every seller on eBay etc wouldn't use it.

This is such a huge amount of traffic that you would have thought companies would be jumping down the throat of the person organising all of this.

What does everyone think?

I’ve got stock arriving Friday and although the contents are new the boxes original supplied are a bit tatty/shop soiled.
In this case do you keep it and sell in the original box or do you buy brand new brown boxes to sell them? General rule of thumb what’s best?

Also instead of a new thread, bulk selling to CEX, do many of you do this?

Hello,

New to the forum and have a few questions.

I am looking to start selling computer games / consoles/ accessories to provide an additional income.

I have previously bought games console packages on a well known auction site and broken them down and sold the games / units separately. This provided a reasonable return on invesment.

However i am looking at purchasing direct from wholesale, my initial outlday would be in the region pf £300 - £400. I know not a lot, however it is in my current financial condition.

I aim to purchase units and sell via the auction site for a return of about £3 - £5 per unit i hope. I am looking for pointers and contact to purchase X-box 360 titles at a reduced rate?

Any ideas or pointers are greatly accpeted!

When my workable capital increases then i will look at units (ps3 slim) etc.

Many thanks, and again Hello

Dave
