We were discussing earnings and projections today when the matter of the 50% tax bracket/threshold came up, obviously time factors will play a major part in what decision we will take when we look like we will hit that level.
Obviously I am not trying to avoid tax but if we are close to achieving the threshold with say 3-5 months of the financial year remaining then I personally am not sure it would be worth the loss due to revenue to continue until the new fin year unless we feel we can more than double profit, what do you do in this situation?

This is a matter I will be raising with the accountant at our next meeting,

The plan is to offer a prize to the winner.
In order to be in with a chance they must answer a simple question. Who is PM etc. Or else a spot the ball contests (a la the big airport supercar draws)
They pay £1 to answer the question, and a correct answer gains entry to the draw.
Say the prize is worth £100, I'd set a target of 125/150 before the draw is made.

I plan to advertise on Gumtree primarily, among several UK cities within that site.

I've looked at these PDF's which suggst that having the qustion aspect makes it above board.

Hi All,

I have mainly been buying from UK wholesalers and now looking to buy from US wholesalers. I've found lots of information about importing from the US on TWF but there are a few things which im still unsure about.

Will the final UK VAT rate be taxed on the package amount and shipping?

I have had a look at the UK Trade Tarrif for any additional duty fees. If there is no 'Duty rates / prohibitions' value does that mean there is no duty or am I missing something here?

Example:

http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg...nDate=12/11/09

If I look up the Measures for the US it says: "There are no EU preference measures for this commodity on this date"

Thanks in advance

U.

I think I found a goldmine when I saw such an active forum. Just reading old threads have been very helpful.

But, i havn't seen this question asked and was wondering if anybody had any ideas.

I am a first time importer and have decided that I want to import and resell designer handbags in South Korea. I found liquidation offers some great lot deals on handbags but they only ship within the US, and countless inquiries have been ignored.

So I was thinking, what if I just won an auction (that had a manifest) and had them ship it to a freight forwarder (UPS, FEDEX, DHL, etc) and then finally to me. So the freight forwarder would be handling the shipping, customs and duties. I know that I would be paying 2x for shipping, but designer bags go for 2x the price here as well.

What are your thoughts?

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,

Have got a site at the moment, and just wondering what the situation is with pixmania pro and de-registering for VAT. Because pix require you to be VAT registered before you open an account, I did that, however did not know that know that being VAT registered would mean not being able to sell the first £68,000 without charging VAT. Now I'm in abit of a dilemma, and just wondering if someone could tell me if I de-registered VAT and continued to purchase stuff from pixmania pro would be illegal? Would there be any consequences, if so what and with who?

Cheers,

Hi

I have ordered some (60 cartons) toys from China, with the help of a friend (friend found supplier and will take care of quality, and shipping from China). everything is ready to be shipped. I would like to ask this forum to please guide me through the importing process. I have read Fardel's post on Basics of importing, and found it very useful. what I would like to know now is that is there anything I should do before my friend actually ships the shipment, eg. file any paper work? if so what papers do i need from the supplier or my friend.

Below is a discription to help you help me:
Theses are educational/3d puzzel toys and are made of wooden board. consumer has to assemble the pieces and colour if he/she wish. This product is already being sold in the UK.

How can I find tarrif code, can I find it on the packing, in a shop where it is being sold.
What is best way to have it shipped from mainland Chaina to the UK.

Once received, I intend to sell in car boot sales, ebay, and any other way I can find, (may ask for help again for that)

Any Thankyou sor your help in advance.
