Morning all,

I was thinking about starting to wholesale used video games & consoles but just wanted a little bit of advice. I currently buy & re-sell on ebay but to be honest the listing & re-listing becomes very combersome after a while so I thought I could suppy the resellers instead. Just got a few questions and would appreciate any answers you can give - productive or not!

1. How many used game wholesalers are there around and is there much of a market for it?
2. How many products would you expect a wholesaler of this kind to stock? (minimum)
3. Is it worth setting up a simple website for application forms, queries etc. or just advertise through forums, or both?
4. I'd be starting from home to begin with so would you recommend paying for an external mailbox in order to look more professional?

Thanks for taking the time to read this post.

hi
we got all the wholesalers & sellers etc on this forum
why dont we try a sell mania what ever that means:dance:
right you could let wholesalers tell you what they got,you must let the forum know how you are going to sell these goods & let other members track the goods i.e if you sell though e-bay give your id before hand so its all fair.
there must be a set min price (as to win you could sell at a lose etc) inc postage etc
maybe have a max spend of 100 pounds (less or more whatever)
bit of fun for the forum
if its two close to chrismo for people maybe we could do one in the new year
if max spend is 100 pounds then you could buy one hundred pound item or 100 pound items etc
whatever you think will make the most profit
then the winner say all goods had to be sold in 2-3wks etc would win a small prize, but surely the winner of the forum would nearly i say nearly lol would be a prize on its own
just a thought for a bit of friendly fun
please add i just thought this would be abit of fun
fine tweeks or more please advise
if anyone else thinks this could be fun then please add you comments,we could even donate a prize to charity do something nice make ourself feel that much better
so come on guys whats your ideas
shall we do it or something like?????
please note i am by no means trying to see what wholesalers have for sale (i know plenty),or to see what sells & what doesnt i just think this would be a bit of fun & be something positive for the forum,if you think otherwise then please do not take part:dance:

Factor in wholesale shipping prices vs Amazon's free shipping..

I was reading through a number of posts and it seems there is quite a few Westerners who use the TWF who are based in China. Im personaly based in Zhejiang 2 hours south of Ningbo in a city called Wenling. Would be great to form some sort of contact list where we could list the

Our contact details,

city/area/region we do business in,

the sort of products that we are currenly sourcing/work with,

Industries/Manufactures in that location/

Any other pertinent information

History

Maybe with a map that people from outside of the country could click on and the relative contact information pops up.

Basically the country is so vast that i find it unbelivable that firms can advertise that they can source and quality check anything and everything within the entire country.
Unless of course they have someone that can afford to pay all the costs.

What im thinking is something set up more for the smaller traders, and people like myself who actually live here.

The setup here is basically that every city/town has its manufacturing specialality. Take Guangzhou for instance, Shenzhen is the main electronic market but alot of the factorys are actually based outside of Shenzhen in the smaller towns, so if a large factory in that town produces say mp3 then the whole town will be geared to that with other smaller factorys producing the componets thus other mp3 factorys set up in the same town as all the componets are there. So if a western person lives there he will have access to cheap mp3 but not to other electronics.

The city i live in also has a large factory and basically everthing here is set up to supply that factory. the city next city over produces something completely different and that is all geared to a certain industry.

So there is certain products i could source/visit the factory and quality check which small buyers may be interested in but due to my location I can not source electronics as well as someone living in Guang zhou and vis versa.

So a database as suggested above with all the details would make sence for people who want to find the products and people like myself who are able to source certain lines of products.

Just throwing this out here to get some feed back from others on TWF. I would especially like to hear from those of you who are based in China or like Pete, have someone here.

There's many articles of people wanting to resell high demand items like tvs, mp3 players, etc. and them going to authorised distributors of the brands to somehow think they could get prices at wholesale price for a lot of 25.

Is the reason why they don't entertain small players is because they already have a small number of BIG retailers that cover a lot of people? Meaning 2 outlets in a state that have the whole state residents coming in.

So they don't need anymore players in the market just in case the prices of the products will just go down?

Or is it the other reason - Small players can't fit the high MOQ of distributors?

I seriously don't get all this. They want more distributor coverage but they don't wanna accept people.

How to start importing and wholesaling (not retailing)?

I've been working on my own product ideas, originals, by approaching retailers and trying to get feedback on the ideas. I really want to buck the trend and learn the ropes of the offline business buisness as opposed to online selling.

Most of you guys import OEM / off the shelf products, right? That is, you don't dabble in your own designs that much. I guess you're importing and retailing (mostly online, or in car-boot/swap-meet sales) rather than importing and wholesaling... I see a couple of problems with importing somebody else's products and wholesaling... firstly professional buyers have spotted most products that will do well... secondly, someone will always import and sell it for less. Thirdly, if the product does well someone will just fold it into their line.

I am guessing you've not faced these problems because you are importing and retailing on eBay? I think it's much harder to import someone else's products and sell wholesale to retailers.

So this is why I have been, and have been advised, to concentrate on my own designs... for selling TO retailers, not AS A retailer. So this is coming up with new products, or tweaking aesthetics, making something slightly better. Then you have no competition. It involves selling to specialty stores, building up from nothing. I think this is how a lot of import companies started, or any product company for that matter... Obermeyer sports, to Innocent smoothies. What do you guys think of this strategy?

Am I wrong... do you import other people's products and wholesale? Do you do your own designs?

For the next two months, more than even the rest of the year you need to be very concerned about the track record of your suppliers. There are all sorts of neat little goodies that spring out of the woodwork through November and December. We all see them in the malls, fancy toys, RC cars, gifts you'd never consider other times of the year, all out there in the aisles with their high prices and no returns policies. (Sorry to anyone selling RC cars, but there are always some of them out.)

And there will be people looking online to find the same at a lower cost. You may decide to put them up and see how they do. But will that guy you were buying them by the case from in a temporary shop be around come the first of they year? Or will you be eating the defects that are sure to follow?

Same with online suppliers. There will be plenty offering the goodies this year, but will they be there next year? There may even be some here. Not saying Anthony is looking for such folks, but who is to know a couple months in advance?

So, deal with those you know, or those you can get good references on. Sellers who have a record and some longevity. You don't want to end up with 43 braying donkeys who quit braying December 29. :)
