Congratulations to anotheruser this months winner of the Member of the Month award.

As many of you will know, this month's MOTM award was chosen by you, the community. Mike was crowned winner of the polls with a resounding 48% of the total votes. Just under 40 community members registered their vote for this month's winner, which was a very pleasing turnout considering this is the first time we have opened MOTM to a public vote.

What is there to say about Mike that isn't already so well known? This is in fact the second time Mike has won MOTM, he was also awarded it at the end of the summer, in September. Mike has now surpassed 1000 posts on the forum, an outstanding achievement considering he only joined us in August! I wonder if all this is an attempt to get me to start paying him per post?

Well done on winning this months award Mike and congrats on the 1000 posts!

Thanks, guys, and thanks for everyone who voted for me. In fact, thanks to everyone who took part and made the exercise worthwhile.

It was an interesting experiment and I hope yuo'll do it again in the not too distant future, Anthony. If I may indulge, though, a couple of observations:

The poll thread itself was hidden from view much of the time, so I wonder how many members didn't see it. Or saw it, intended to come back and then didn't see it on the next visit. So that may well have reduced the numbers participating to some extent.

The other thing to mention is that this type of poll is always going to be decided from those most active during the polling period, in terms of numbers of constructed posts with a significant amount of content, from those shortlisted, that was going to be Dean, Pete and me from the outset.

That has the sad byproduct of ignoring examples, and there are several of them, like D M who don't post maybe as often. When they do their input tends to be shorter but the incisive nature is usually tremendously helpful. The quality more than makes up for any lack of quantity or bulk of postings as their experience really shines through.

So well done for taking the initiative, Anthony. It certainly proved worthwhile in my view and should be a regular feature. To avoid many deserving candidates from missing out permanently, may I respectfully suggest it be repeated, but not too often?
