or anthony could make a new topic place so we can place threads about the scammers and the mods can just read it then ban them

This wouldn't stop spammers. £0.50 is nothing and it could potentially drive new guests away.

Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Unfortunately it is impossible to stop all spam postings the way this forum is currently setup.

What we could potentially do is moderate all new posts to the forums, therefore stop scam/spam postings going live until a moderator has approved it. This might work well for those with under 10/20 posts perhaps.

The best way to stop the scam/spam posts as quickly as possible is to use the Report Post feature and alert the moderating team to the offenders. This is still the quickest way to alert a moderator to a conflicting post.

See this page for further info on how it works:

The mods do a good job of keeping the spam down here - yes someone can spam a few threads but there are a few options that make it more tricky;

1). There is a timer feature that means you cannot just cut / paste / post

2). There is good reporting of the spam to the mods

3). They are active in banning users quickly.

Maybe as a suggestion to help moderate the spamming Anthony could look at increasing the timer feature ? Is there a way like in some forums where you have to be accepted as a member ( you could keep a track of IP addresses and maybe stop a few from joining ) ?

The timer you speak of is really already at its peak, I'm therefore hesitant of increasing it further. A lot of users, myself included, have the ability to type messages quickly and therefore like to respond to many threads within a short space of time. I wouldn't want that feature further restricted.

With regard to IP addresses, we already operate a form of IP address banning, unfortunately however some legitimate members get caught in the cross fire (due to the use of dynamic IPs) which makes it something we don't employ particularly often.

Moderating of posts made by new members may be the way forward, or it may be just a case of increasing the number of active moderators we have amongst the team and promoting the "report post" feature further.

Thank you for your input gentlemen.

We could do with a few more mods around the place!
