Default Stop the Spam Sellers?

Maybe its time, to stop the Spam sellers, by making a small charge say £0.50 via paypal just to become a member of the forum?

Default Sorry ..No

I dont think 50p will stop anyone.

Thats the only problem you have when you have a forum like this open to anyone.

Maybe a more thorough background business/address check may be a more full proof way of stopping people, but then you will probably get fake addresses being entered.

Im sure the administrators are doing their best to keep out the non wanted members!

I don't know, most of the spam sites based in the Far East, would rather not pay £0.50 and have to submit there paypal details (which most dont have!) and then may decide to move onto some other site?

Spam is an ongoing issue on all forums, it is notoriously hard to stop the manual spammers which you are seeing now as the automated signups are filtered pretty well.

The best methods to deal with these is via the community, as soon as a post is made it needs to be flagged to the mods/admin and a simple reply that states they are scammers will hopefully stop the foolish from enetering into a deal with them.

We pretty much negate these posts very quickly.

Personally I have never seen a paid membership system work on a forum like the format we operate in, plus the administration side of things can become a nightmare. As a community we can all set about dealing with the issues and protecting our forum.

You'd loose 99% of new members. They'd see 50p to join and think 'they're having a laugh' and bugger off.
