Default TWF Mentors?

Its not a really big change, just a new usergroup entitled "Mentor" for TWF members who are helpful and informative on the forums, think it would be a good reward for people who put the effort in!

Whatta think guys?

I think instead of rewarding them with a tittle which I think a lot of them wouldn't care for (I could be wrong just the genuine informative people here seem to be here to help not to gloat with a tittle) would to be say reward them with a certain amount of points per informative post. I.e Post is rated extremely helpful they receive 3 points. These points could be used for discounts on there advertising fees on the forums. Although admittedly I haven't looked into pricing on advertising on these forums and it may even only be a once of fee? Also my idea wouldn't benefit extremely helpful people like Geo who aren't advertisers. Just thought I'd throw the idea out there :P

Yeah, i know there is a "Repuation" or "Karma" points on other forums, it could be useful to implement that.

But I could save them up.... like green shield stamps.....[don't tell me.... you never heard of them..... how about Kensitas coupons?{in cigarette packets?}.... no?] ah well perhaps not then eh.... could I save them up and use them for a block vote for member of the month?.... like the unions do?.... It would save me sending all those crisp packets in... again... no?.... oh well [good fleetwood mac song that].... perhaps use them in a pyramid selling scam... er sorry scheme.... no?.... oh dear..... ah well.... back to the drawing board.....

Seriously..... I dont know if its a good idea or not.... it may encourage "Lurkers" to come out of the woodwork and post more... it may encourage more participation..... don't know

LOL! Whatever drug you're on mate, gimmie some ! haha.

Yes, i think it would increase activity on the board, this is one of the few vBulletin forums i have seen that do not use a points system or infact a "VIP" or "Paid membership" optiion. As in you pay a months subscription, you get extra things such as bigger inbox, bigger avatar, own forum etc.

Opinions?

If ten people were chosen as Mentors; I'd chose:

Pete
Greedyboy
HardwareHeroes
D_M
Andy777
studio1one
geosamm
Saajan
Pablow123
Beneddie112

Who would everyone else choose in their ten ?

(Obviously Mods couldn't become 'Mentors')

As much as I appreciate picking up a vote guys, I am not entirely convinced by the idea. Thats not to say I disagree with it, far from it - just not sure how it would work in practice.

Lets say for instance that a newbie was asking for advice on here and a "mentor" posted a reply which lead to said newbie losing money or being scammed etc.

If this forum was seen to be promoting people to a level of distinction that implied a degree of expertise, it may have legal ramifications if advice given lead to problems.

Hope you can understand what I mean - don't mean to burst anyones bubble. . Lets face it, anyone can make a mistake and whilst that is all fine and well when its your own money, its not so good when it leads to heartache for someone else too.
