Default Great Hosting Deals from £1 only

Hi all,

There are people out there that put off getting online because it is going to cost them to much, well things have changed and there are a number of great hosting companies out there (quite a few I have accounts with) but I have recently been using just one host and am starting to transfer all my domains to them as I am exceptionally happy with their service and deals.

They offer hosting accounts from £1 a month, which includes cpanel and fantastico and a whole host of other features. Check out Hosting Deals .

I have posted this because I have had a number of emails etc asking about hosting and how best to get started online, my advice would be to stop thinking about it and get doing it. Pick a domain name you like and see if it is available, I recommend using GoDaddy for .com names and 123reg for .co.uk names get your hosting sorted and then have a play..

I say play because without actually seeing the way changes that you make to your web code actual diplay in a browser then you will never actually learn anything properly, HTML is actually quite a straight forward language to use and there are numerous WYSIWYG editors that make the whole process easier.

Even if you just put up a site where you can share pictures with your family then its a start and before long you may find that it develops into something more.

Hope this helps all those that have asked for advice, let me know if you need anything else.

Mike

I must say I have used 123 reg before and they are very quick at processing your domains!

Within literally an hour my domain was ready to play with

Great post Mike,

Anthony

Or if you are interrested in hosting other people for money. I have been e-mailing these guys. http://www.streamline.net/uu.php This is for unlimeted space and unlimeted bandwith. For only £44.99 a year or £67.98 for 2 years. Which is the cheapest i have come across. I am interested in this package and will be purchasing soon. So i will let you know how it goes for me

I have heard some bad things about streamline...take a look at :

http://www.reviewcentre.com/reviews66682.html

Also, dont the add ons push the price up quite high...SSL etc

BWS also offer reseller accounts at £10 a month, that includes all the additionals that streamline charge for.

The forum is hosted by Streamline.net

Not that pleased with them, but recently they have been alot better. I would change, but moving the database etc, is not that easy!

James,

Do streamline charge or are they putting other barriers in? A competent hosting company should be able to make the transition quite easy, i haven't actually had to do it yet but that is the feedback I have been given from others..

From what I have heard it is very hard to transfer your domain from stremline. The problem is, they registered the domain as they offered a free domain when signing up with them.

I would have thought the actual moving of hosts would not be too hard. Would be simply a case of changing nameservers on the domain and transferring the files.

However, the fact that this is a forum makes it a little more complicated. Basically means I would need to back up the database, and then upload to the new host. I would not have a clue where to start!

So, as I have not actually moved from Streamline I am not completely sure, but from what I have heard they do not make it easy to transfer nameservers.

Yeah you tend to find the free domain registration offers tend to tie you up a bit. Do you not own the domain though (you must) and do they not provide a control panel to manage the domain? I don't (nor will) use streamline so I dont know.

They do say this on their page :

Quote:
Domain Ownership: You are the owner of your domain. If we register a domain for you then you retain full ownership of it and have the right to transfer it away at any time for no charge.
That claim alone must give some leverage, presume they drag their heels etc to make life hard?

I am sure that is the case.

It cant be a case of simply doing it yourself though, like other hosts. The other host I use is mysitespace.com who I find are very good. They use cpanel with fantastico.

Streamline do not use Cpanel, preferring to use some crappy alternative, with only a few features.

However, I have a year left with SL so will use them. Over the past 6 months, their service has improved, and the site is online 99% of the time, operating at decent speeds.
