Angry Attempt to be scammed on Amazon!

Last night I listed my first item on Amazon, this morning I have already received a fraulent email trying to con me out of a phone..

The email looked OK, it contained all headers and graphics, links etc. I got really suspicious when I saw the delivery address, and how this buyer has £5,500.00 deposit in Amazon! I then checked my Amazon account to find that I had not sold any phones.

The email went as follows.

Dear xile2005,

I emailed Amazon and within in minutes I received a long pre-scripted email, from customer services, saying how the email has nothing to do with them. Waste of time really.

The scammers must go around looking for new sellers hoping they're wet behind the ears and get all excited by receiving notification that they have made their first sale. I wonder how many fall for it!

Exactly. Ebay has a similar situation at the moment. Although the scammers also try to fool powersellers like myself..

Just do as you did do, check to see if its sold, report the email then delete it and forget it. Scammers are an unfortunate by product of our society.

I had this when I sold a phone on amazon. I think i got about 8 Nigerian emails in 48 hours.

A simple delete was in order. Sure, Old John Smith is a popular guy, but he doesnt know that many people from sunny Lagos.

That is ridculous! Amazon should really try and put something in place to stop all of these emails coming as hoaxes..

It would be fair to say that a lot of people probably get scammed into thinking that these emails are real and would follow their instructions. Its a really sad event when you think about it..

I don't suppose there is anything anyone can do, all you can do is double check all orders before shipping any items.

What I have now done is put at the bottom of my listings in bold red: I will not ship to Africa, Romania or Ukarine so please DON'T ASK!

Hopefully, the scammer won't try it on because they know I'm on to their scam.
