The only problem with this is that's 1.1 Billion people who want this type of lifestyle. This increases demand for Oil and Food which increases the price, hence the reason for the current level of Crude and Food.
This isn't temporary either. The Far East arn't going to stop wanting more, they have worked hard for years to get to where they are today, and the consumption levels will grow and China becomes the biggest Super Power in the World.
We need to adjust our lifestyles to fit in with the changes that are taking place, and it's not going to be much fun!

So true. But add India to that list, as well.
Virtually everywhere, except possibly Africa, the rest of the world is catching up and increasing demand for products across the board. Imagine, meat more than once a week! (If that.)
All of those starving masses are finally catching up and tipping our lifeboat to level the market.

In fact, Western World (Europe, US, Canada etc.) has built their
economics for the last 50 years, based on cheap work in China
and India.
As George Soros recently pointed:
"From the end of World War II until now, we've been in a kind of superbubble, marked by credit expansion based on the dollar as the international reserve currency. The current crisis marks the end of that era. The United States is facing both a recession and a flight from the dollar. The signs were very much visible to those who chose to see them. Unfortunately, many did not."

I mean honestly do you really think that you should invest in too much right now when people are having trouble buying gas right now. I personally don't think that it is a great idea. Running into a recession isn't hard to believe considering what we are going through.

It's times like these that people who offer value for money received will do well.
Vacations will be closer to home, but there is still a lot of suntan lotion going to be sold. And charcoal for the barbie. And birthday presents to be bought, might not be as fancy or expensive, but they will still be bought.

I have three kitchen businesses. Each one is targeted/marketed individually to appeal to the bottom/mid/and upper mid markets.
The upper mid market £20k - £30k kitchens are ticking along as they have always done with no obvious change, the mid market is DEAD!! but the lower end has experienced something like 500% growth over the last six months!
It would appear that people are tightening their belts without actually giving up on their dreams / ideas just yet.
EDIT : So, agreeing with Pete in other words

This proves once again that luxury goods market isn't affected by this crisis. At least - so far...

All the housebuilders in Fife seem to have simultaneoulsy stopped building houses in the last fortnight - large numbers of pay-offs as site work is suspended pending sales of existing stock.
Most have laid off about 1/3rd of their workforce on average with many more put on month-to-month contracts.
Depressing if not a little worrying!

I was speaking to a farmer yesterday and he was predicting come January food prices are going to rocket beyond recognition! This government is going to suffer a massive backlash, it's already started and it is going to snowball unless they do something.
Looks like my prediction of shopping in ASDA could actually be worse, I may be serving you in ASDA
