Is Chinese business monitored by governments
I was wondering, I have been communicating with some Chinese suppliers recently. Considering probably 80% of the worlds goods seem to be manufactured there it is inevitable that people like us who hope to carry out business through importing will be led to China sooner or later. I heard a report the other day they have approx 200 million school children, the future business people, managers, entrepeneurs etc. of this huge country, and all set on cutting a deal apparently to follow the new democratic ways.
Anyway, I have read reports that the filtering system in China, driven largely by the old guard I suspect, the ability to monitor communications is very advanced, although I am not sure how efficient it is these days. Apparently in the earlier days Clinton had suggested that for China to resist the internet is likened to "Nailing Jello to the wall" Haven't tried it, but I get the picture!
So is it relevant today, is there an underlying current of preference not to trade with the western world for instance, lest the Chinese population become tainted with our ways?
Which in honesty I can understand given some of the crap that appears on TV and the incredibly sycophantic and consumerist vision we see of , for instance the "Celebrity" world. God they are an embarrassment, I dread to think what other countries think of us. But that is another story, so I will rein it in there.
Any comments?
Pondering, JonO.

Knowing what we can do, as in we I mean NATO, I expect that China top levels of state have a very good understanding on what is happening. They more then likely know what your email reply is going to say before you do!

The chinese firewall is very stong, while I was in Hong Kong sending emails and logging onto any site world wide was fine, go over the border into china and you get a very different response, any site that is not liked by the firewall will simply display an error message, emails are corrupted or censored (a couple of my freinds complained that I sent emails full if 'XXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX' !!!
Same applies to TV, you will be watching news on CNN and all of a sudden you see a peaceful garden or an advert kick in it just where it shouldnt! looks wrong but common practice in china.
The chinese dont mind doing business with the west, they just dont trust the west.
White people are called gwaliu - which transaltes into 'White Devil' now thats hardly a welcoming thought, they also dont trust the Round Eyes which is everyone other than their own!
Maybe the chinese cant be blamed we did take advantage of them and their land during the opium wars and in ripping off Hong Kong.
But now look how things have changed 99 years after taking control of the New Terrortries we had to hand it back along with it Hong Kong which was never part of the deal but then who is going to defend an in-defensible island from the mother land??? certainly not us brits so we came back home!
The chinese are very long term thinkers, it took them 100 years to build the great wall of china, it took just 99 years to be handed on a silver platter the worlds premier port, financial hub, trading centre and world class destination which used to be marsh land and swamp!
Now they have the world hooked on chinese opium that is everything 'Made in China' just imagine china decided to stop feeding our addiction, there would not be a store in the world who's shelves would not be bare!
China is China and people need to stop thinking about imposing freedoms, democracy and our visions on what things should be like, it simply isnt going to happen, anyone that has visitied china will know china does what china wants and you either put up with it or pack your bags and leave.

Yes I agree the more we know about China more the better it will be for westerners to understand the culture and ways of life. I often watch the T.V. channel now CCTV on satellite channel, and it is quite interesting, although how to learn to speak chinese is a little beyond me, LOL, but there again it is just a brief look at the language. I think it would be a good idea for school kids in the UK to actually be given the option of Learning Chinese, or maybe even compulsory basics, as it seems to me and many others that with the fast Chinese economic growth and future, and of course size. Many types of business will benefit as will the country as a whole if the Chinese language and culture is taken on board.
