Supply vs Demand nano group buy
IM interested in finding out what your thoughts are on the fact thousands of ipod nanos will be entering auctions ites and such with a lower cost price than before, ive already seen listings on ioffer and ebay with people preselling nanos for "a production run, stock coming in early feb 2006" one of these was the asking price of $185,, the other was buy it now £153. DO you think this will drive the price of nanos down?

I think there's no question we will see a price drop. These things have been going much higher than retail because of christmas and the fact that you can't get them anywhere. I predict come January when they start showing up on shelves and in suppliers' inventories, we will see a drop certainly down to retail but likely a steady stream below retail say $230 USD and lower for singles. - Only my prediction.

But are'nt most of the ipods on eBay fakes ?
So if you advertise your ipods as genuine and tell people about the amount of fakes on the market and tell them how to spot fakes i would say your price would be around retail maybe £10 below which is expected.

well if everyone sells them on a buy it now and all at the same sort prices then it could work, keep the price up, but if its in a acution and ebay is flooded then the prices will be down ,
if all the buyers on here are going to sell them on ebay why don't you all agree to sell them on a buy it now at a set price this way you will keep up the price , just a thought

youve gotta love a cartel
But i agree, i dont see why people would want to get rid of them at stupidly low prices, there is a high demand for these, i will not be using the buy it now, i will be auctioning mine and getting as mcuh as i can

Also one thing the people who don't get taxed are going to pay around £30 less so these people will be able to undercut the people who do get taxed.
What mark-up are people looking to make on the ipods ? just out of interest.

All well and good but once ebay is flooded then you won't get your price people will see the amount of ipods for sale and your prices will be reduced hope i'm wrong because the more authentic goods on ebay the better and hopefully the prices will be a little higher too

Ther's a big difference in how to run auctions on ebayuk v ebay.com, there's obviously many more bidders on the .com site so for products where there is a high demand auction formats are probably the best, keeps listing fees down too if you can start them low and know that they will be bid up anyway, whereas on ebayuk where there are less bidders you would be looking to either go with an auction with a high starting price and also with a buy it now option or a bulk listing buy it now only.
That's how I would do it anyway, if you don't have to turn them over too quickly sit on them for a few weeks until all the "silly sellers" have offloaded there's for mnimum profit.
