Only having recently started to dabble a bit, I've come to realise that there is obviously potential in buying/selling, but just wondered if the more established/professional business men on here class it as a lucrative business for full time. For those who class it as a full time employment are there good rewards from this, and by good rewards I obviously mean money.

I worked for a major print company for years, treated like ****!!, money was bad for night shift work, but its all I knew, and always aspired to doing something for myself. The push came, when poor rates of pay were offered and more work..................so I told 'em to stick it.

My money was something like £440 per week take home, and most trades that I knew wouldn't get out of bed unless they were earning a £1000 a week.

I obviously don't want to know what you guys earn, but anything over £1000 or close to it would be ideal. Is this achievable?.I'm only really talking about one man bands rather than companies.

Obviously good suppliers are a must and a constant stock is important to maintain a weekly/monthly wage. I just wondered if you are happy with your income with relation to what you actually do.

From my point of view I'm thoroughly enjoying it, searching for stock, meeting people, trying to make a few deals...........and a lot from the comfort of the pc and in my own time, but money wise can it be made to achieve a decent wage, and by decent, to me anything over my measly £400 quid a week.

Thanks for any input.

I wouldn't knock £400 a week take home! That's no easy feat.

I know some self employed people that barely make £300 a week sometimes.

Isn't £400 the average weekly wage for the UK?

yh, I understand that m8, and a lot of people would like £400 income a week. Unfortunately after doing 12 years of night work, it does tend to get you down a bit, when other trades...., (and mine was a trade, apprenticeship etc....) are earning over double that for day work/shift work. I'm not saying it was a bad trade, I was just stuck in a rut, not happy, and being told what to do by people who knew less about the bloody job than I did !!! Mine life was no social life, not seeing the missus (some might like that...lol), not going out with kids etc..., and looking like a bloody vampire!!!, cos no daylight...lol

I made my bed and had to lay in it, but didn't want to lay in it any longer...lol

I'm basically asking if ppl are making a good living.?

Yeah, It's not easy but its very doable, once you get on a bit of a streak things start to come along, If you stick a night shift job for 12 years then this should be like taking candy from a baby so to speak!

Sorry..lol getting bitter and twisted...lol !!!

Fate was to play a part, cos they closed down 8 months after I left

I believe what goes around comes around

Takes time and practice though and it's not an overnight thing. Like with anything, with business, once you know what you are doing you can very easily exceed your expectations and before you know it you are earning £400+ every morning and again in the afternoon, not in a single week.

As for working every hour, be prepared to work even longer hours running a business! Sometime you sweat 16 hours a day for nothing but the end result can be VERY rewarding. I've not had a social life for a few weeks. It's not always like that but when the effort is required you have to put in the effort and then some. It's becomes second nature after while.

Make the most of every hour you sleep at the moment as that will be a thing of the past!!!

Thanks Greedyboy, yh, I understand that m8, I don't mind sweating me nuts off, never been afraid of work...............just got fed up with doing it for someone else's benefit.

On the short while I've been on here, I've learnt quite a lot m8, including how much I should be pricing, what profit margin, best couriers to use ect...., all just by searching and reading threads.

I've basically just been sourcing products on discount, few items on ebay, then just following some leads to see if they can supply anything else. Unfortunately I do like branded goods, and so do buyers if they get the right price.............but like loads have said....small profit, but I'd rather know I can sell a product rather than sitting with me weeks on end.

I'm only just learning m8, but excited about it, and definately willing to did deep :niceone:

When you first start, its hard to earn anything like £1000 a week, your main problem after finding what products you can sell at a healthy profit will be cash flow. You will have sold all your products and find your money is locked up - probably in paypal. You will then have to wait a week for the money to become available again and then wait another week to receive your goods, so even if you made £1000 in week 1 you have made nothing in weeks 2 and 3. You need to keep really good stock management, no how many you have left of each item so you can place orders before they are out of stock.

And like greedyboy says be prepared to work very long hours especially if your importing because time differences can mean your talking to the US at 2pm but then talking to China at 3 AM, its hard work.

Hit the nail on the head m8, I'm already finding that in just a short while....lol Money in paypal I mean. I'm buying more stock, but obviously been using my own capital, sales are going back into paypal then I'm in turn using paypal to puchase, so at the moment never really seeing cash in hand......apart from a few private sales....

You rightly assume you will see profit when everything is sold, but then again you need more stock..lol swings and roundabouts spring to mind!! Thats the side of it, I've got to try and control and understand.
