Old   Fake Sony memory cards?

I have recently been looking into reselling Sony pro duo memory cards. I have spoken to several suppliers that claim to offer copies of sony memory cards. I make it clear that I refuse to buy anything but authentic merchandise and they tell me that they're not authentic but are made by Sony. ???

I have also been informed that there are no authentic Sony memory cards in the Chinese market. Furthermore, I have been informed that MANY suppliers from Europe and the US buy and sell these regularly as authentic products.

So, are these people passing on copies as the real thing (my conclusion) or is this somehow legal  ? Are these the legitimate Chinese version of the Sony memory cards (maybe due to manufacturing rights)? I'm guessing they're just copies which are ripping people off worldwide but I honestly don't have a concrete answer.

Anyone care to weigh in on the topic?

well.................ur right about the chinese factor...prolly 90 percent of supliers sell copies..........the only difference with the copies and the originals is the memory chip(the housing is vurtually exactly the same)..........sony obviously uses a better quality chip..and the chinese piraters use the cheapest they can find
There are plenty of copied sony 2gb 4gb usb flash drives getting around atm and apparently the chips are so cheap that you cant even format them properly or only get about half of the stated storage......or they just crash (plus you lose your files) altogether.
So in all i suggest not falling into the `copy` scene because your bound to get complaints and refund requests coz of the problems that come with these `copies`
Hope this helps

hope you don't plan on selling the authentics on ebay..

the value of the authentic goods have been drastically tainted by the counterfits..

same has happened with other markets on ebay as well..the counterfits bring down the value of the authentic goods...hence, people want to pay cheaper for authentic merchandise..

take lacoste for instance..one out of many perfect analogies for the counterfit situation..

say if you had authentic, genuine lacoste from lacoste themselves...im going to speak on the solid color polos only..

say you try and post up your authentic shirt to try and make a profit..you will not, and i repeat, will not get anywhere close to what you've paid for your shirt..let alone make a profit..people are selling the counterfits for $20 - $30 tops..thats around the price you'll be paying for authentic merchandise..the lowest price i've seen authentic lacoste which happens to be in season, $50 a shirt and you have to purchase more than 6 to get $50 a shirt...i am in contact with an authentic lacoste shirt supplier as we speak...im on ebay with my merchandise..just doesn't make sense to sell authentic items on there..unless you want to lose money.. :niceone:

edit*

when I say "in season", means that it's the lacoste shirt of the season..like fall/winter are long sleeve.. you can probably get them cheaper if you get them at the end of the season from overstocked merchandise..

Gotta agree with you there skipcoludwalker,

I probably will be selling the authentics on my site, to returning customers, just to keep things small.

I take it sony cant be too happy about anyone selling these though can they?

It's too bad Ebay can't crack down more on the counterfeits. From speaking to the Chinese suppliers, I would assume that 95%+ of the Sony Memory Sticks on Ebay are "Copies of Original". Even after I told one supplier that I wasn't interested in tricking/scamming my buyers he told me "Nobody will know, we sell 1000s to the US and Europe. You can sell as original." Sorry guy, don't think so. Anyway, I hate fakes and "copies of original" and wish these people would be shut down. Although I don't see it happening any time soon...

highly doubt it..the counterfit clothing business is an estimated 200 billion dollar a year industry...and growing..

now moving into the counterfit electronics market.......who knows how much this industry will be worth in the next 3-5 years....

edit*

highly doubt ebay cracking down on counterfits i mean..

but they do have their VeRO program...guess the companies gave up..companies like Seven and True Religion are highly involved in the VeRO program..

the electronics industry have yet to become so active in VeRO..My guess is that they don't see it affecting their profits as of yet..so they're not too worried about it as of yet..but once it starts affecting profits, you'll see them tightening the rope..

take a look at apple..if im not mistaken, they have recently put the clamp down on their distribution channels and factory lot purchases..someone correct me if im wrong..but they have stopped individuals and businesses from purchasing lots through their factories..

edit#2*

highly informed just now...electronics is the biggest form of counterfitted products..had no idea..has been for years..

edit #3

Even more suprizing..the OEM's at times don't even know if the manufacturers are using quality products through their own authorized distribution channels..they use factors like if there is a spike in products being retuned for red flags.. ...which makes you wonder why don't they just build the factories in countries where they can control what goes on with their product..the answer..greed and cheap labor..
