The Wholesale Directory
Hi
As you will have heard, i have just launched the website www.thewholesaledirectory.co.uk
I am looking for ideas, ways to take this forward etc.
Would you use such a site if companies started to list on their?
To businesses- Would you list on thier at the price which is being charged? What puts you off?
Anything really. This is being made to link with the forum, so it is important that the community adds to it in someway in how it works etc.
Thanks
James Yellow_Fl:

I would use it to search for suppliers, yes. If there were a good selection of suppliers on there.
I think you will have difficulty getting it off the ground with few advertisers. Make the first year free and get a critical mass of suppliers. Or give the 1st 500 advertisers a lifetime free membership. Once that snowball is rolling it'll keep on rolling, but you need a lot of content quickly for it to be a success.
Good luck!

I would give it a try for the 2 weeks and see how it goes. The problem is there's plenty of other directories that list wholesalers for free. There's only one I know who charge and they charge £1 per day!

Just changed it to 1 month free trial.
Why not give it a go! We are getting hundreds of hits per day and it hasnt even launched properly yet! Nothing to lose!

Well Without causing upset or insult to anyone Yellow_Fl: Yellow_Fl:
I Wont pay for advertising a link through to my site, In the past there were too many do gooder companies who promised the earth and charged a very reasonable £150 per year for their services, but, the services never materialised, the site did exist but the locating of it was pathetic.
I can forward many emails that I have recieved on a weekly Basis from Website Owners who only want a couple of quid to advertise on their Number 1 Site, well, I'm sorry, but if their site is number 1 then Why are they only charging £1 or £2 per week for this excellent site???????
But then again, if they were asking for £10 - £20 per week I'd be wanting to see how they can justify that as was Lol
I've seen it too many times where people want to get rich quick and decide to start these Info Websites up, charging for advertising but relying on the advertisers to support the costs.
Admittedly it would be a great thing to have a directory of suppliers at the fingertips but unfortunately it just cant be done as well as it should because of the negative opinions of people like myself who have been mislead in the past. :-(

Thanks for your view. No offence caused.
I also get those emails regarding the schemes. Last one i got was "Due to my pending retirement, i am looking for someone to take up my multi-million dollar business idea". Straight to the trash bin.
Regarding the Directory, i really believe it will come up with the goods for suppliers. With 1200+ members here that will be linked to it, advertising on pay-per-click sites, and partnerships with other sites, i hope within a year it will by getting thousands of visitors per day. The price that we charge is nothing when taking into account what others charge, and the possible sales that could be made from new customers.
However, you are entitled to your opinion on this. It has been launched to cover costs of the forum and hopefully to make a bit on the side, while helping those in need.

Apart from the wholesale directory, there's only one other site I've paid to advertise on (the one at £1 per day), and they really kick started my business. I'd made enough during my one month trial period to more than pay for their services. They really do live up to their promises. It may be because it's free to view for people wanting to find wholesalers, and that they're very high up on the google search.
I've also found that I am listed on other 'pay to list' websites, and I've not paid a penny. It may be that they're trying to get more wholesalers listed and may try and get me to pay a few months down the line.

Response has actually been pretty good today.
Have been contacting businesses for a few hours and had quite a few positive responses.
Keep checking it out!

Just go to the site and click the 'add your site' link at the top.
And if you feeling generous, can you put our link on your site. On the home page, their is a button that says "link to us". This will give you the code for the link.
If not, Thanks anyway! Yellow_Fl:
