I am not sure what information i should request before making an order with supplier, even from this forum.
I usually request identity document e.g. Passport / Drivig License. Company details if they are registered however most forum members are not. 2 references from previous sales again some dont have any.
I think this would help eveyone out as we will all know what procedues to follow when ordering, also reduce likelihood of being scammed.

Pelase contribure to this thread with you comments/ what information you request from spplier.

Personally I would be uneasy giving out my passport or driving license details even though I have absolutely nothing to hide (and many people can back me up on this). Then again, I do have a registered business so anything you wanted from the business would not be a problem, Registration number, registered address, bank details, TURN number etc I would not have a problem giving out.

When dealing with new suppliers I will ask them for their website address if applicable, methods of payment, bank details, telephone number and registered office. Most new suppliers I ask them to send the first order to me first and then I will remit a payment - even if this is just a small sample order. If the company wants your business then they should be willing to do this.

If they are a proper company, generaly they will send you trade/wholesale application forms.

They will have a website, contact numbers, vat registered and registered company.

Its fairly easy when speaking to a company if they are genuine or not, cause some suppliers i have phoned up in the past didnt even no what prices they were selling there items for. So i no to run a mile!!

Physical location
Years in Business
Where they are registered
Phone #
References
Any other relative information

Most importantly: PAYMENT OPTIONS. Secure sellers typically offer secure payment methods. Look for sellers who accept credit card, L/C (letter of credit), escrow (with a reliable service), or fly and buy.

If you are planning on making a large purchase, plan on flying out to meet them. This will scare off most scammers and the small amount spent on a plane ticket is worth it .
