Selling Suppliers - New Trend?
Browsing the For Sale section the last couple of days, I was wondering if it is becoming a new trend to sell supplier information? I don´t mean the usual wholesale lists you find pretty much everywhere, I am talking about reliable suppliers that people here have worked with. Or is this just a new form of these wholesale lists?
Does that mean that people selling their supplier information are leaving the wholesale industry? Normally, having a good reliable supplier is one of the most important factors in this business, and from what I remember, pretty much no one is willing to share the really good suppliers. And this is what makes me curious why people would sell them?
Did they find even better suppliers that they use now, or are they leaving the industry?
Please dont get me wrong, I am not critizising selling suppliers or anything like that, I am just curious to find out why people are selling up their sources.

I too have noticed it and am considering changing the for-sale rulings on this. Frankly I find it difficult not to get annoyed when people think they can sell supplier details that they only found 5 minutes ago and have never used.
Its a minority and is something that I would like to nip in the bud before others think its an easy way to make a bit of money.

I totally agree Anthony. I would be really surprised if someone would just sell his good suppliers, because they would basically be giving away their business base.
And why should one do that? If the products that can be sourced via these suppliers are in demand, wouldn´t it be better to supply them yourself instead of selling the source? Even though the suppliers that are being sold are a lot more expensive than the average wholesale list, I am surprised that people are buying them without having had experience with them before.
Obviously it is far more easy and simple to sell information instead of goods. But in the end it doesn´t really make sense to me:
There either is demand for a product and you can make more profit selling the goods to customers who want them, or there is hardly any demand and you can´t make profits. But if there is no demand, how come everyone is looking for sources and want to buy the info on them.
I think we all know how hard it is to find and come by really good suppliers...it can take years to build a base of suppliers that are really worthwhile. I am just really surprised about this new trend.

it seems to be getting worse .... it seems the new in thing is not to sell any goods but to sell supplier details..... i have to say that i am starting to lose interest in even looking at the for sale items as it is getting taken up with one topic only ... initially the supplier selling seemed like a good idea, but now i'm not so sure.... whats to stop me creating an advert (subscribing as a regsitered seller first of course) and selling names of a supplier i may have dealt with once or twice...seems like relatively easy money .... why not just share the names in the community spirit

for new websites im sure that selling the supplier info on here is making more money tham selling the goods on a website but it is not good for the seller in the longrun.

Completely agree, i think it should be stopped.
I paid £50 for 10 dropshippers, mainly out of interest and the fact that ive found it difficult finding decent dropshippers.
Anyway, i was 100% ripped off, at least 2 of the sites are retail sites! at least 5 of them can be found on this forum!
The seller also said that he uses all these for his webiste, but when i asked him he admitted that he had not used all of them.
Quite frankly your better off buying a £5 list off eBay than buying his supplier info, or just look to the regular sellers of this forum as thats where he has got most of his info from!
