Best places to sell x-catalogue goods?
As some of you may already know I have decided to go into x-catalogue sales instead of PC repair, I just having got the confidence to go out and do the PC repair when I havent taken any courses or have any qualifications, Im self-taught. I keep coming up with problems (As do my mates) and I can usually sort them, but theres always something I cant and this has made me decide to go with x-catalogue sales. Also, my patience is quite limited and I find myself wanting to put my foot into the PC's face a lot of the time, altho I never do thats besides the point!
Anyway, Im going with x-cat sales and was wondering where the best place to sell the products would be? Im planning to buy mixed goods to start with so I can see what sells well and what doesnt. Excercise equipment will probably be my best option as its easy to repair if need be. I will use Ebay but only as the last resort as items dont sell for a lot on there and I think its the place to go to buy products at the cheapest price possible. Im thinking about selling at car boot sales, local papers and my own website.
Im also looking into getting a small shop, anyone had any experience with this? A garage would be handy too to keep stock in.
Thanks

Use ebay as a launch platform and develop the customer base and the traffic to your own site from this..ebay has a massive traffic throughput everyday and offers a targetted market via the use of categories and I always recommend that ayone geting started gets a website and uses ebay to develop it. (I have some articles on this on my auction site)
Physical premises mean extra overheads and in start up you want to try and minimise costs as much as possible.
The site does not have to be all singing and dancing but needs to be functional and easy to navigate and more importantly be able to accept customer details into a mailing list as this gives you a database of customers that can be emailed when you get the 'special offers' in...again covered on my auction site.
Let me know if you need any more help etc as if I can help I will

Delivery Charges to the isle of wight are crazy and £80 is the cost price from Palletline. We have no issues if you wish to arange your own transport. Depending on the size of your order there is a couple of things we might me able to do. Please email us directly sales@genevabrighton.co.uk and we will see what we can do for you.

One thing that I do find very frustrating Geneva Brighton is the fact that the prices shown do not include VAT, in a way I find this to be false advertising because you only realise the full price once you've added the items to your basket. I think this should be changed as you dont always get the bargain you think youve found, i.e. the plasma TV's.

Hi Paul,
Thanks for your email.
All wholesalers quote prices excluding Vat.
Vat only applies to 57% of our customers.
We subscribe to many trade sites and publications and 95% of
wholesalers quote prices ex vat. Even companies like Costco &
Macro (That almost sell to anyone these days) quote all
prices ex vat.
If you are vat registered to a degree it makes no difference
to you as the end customers pays the vat. If you are not vat
registered then it will make a difference but as already
stated all Trade prices are ex vat.
Our site clearly states that we are trade company and prices
exclude vat.
As you have also said you do have the option to put items in
your basket and view the total price before you order, its
not as if you find out after you have placed your order.
We believe in good relationships with everyone we deal with
and appreciate your comments.
Best wishes
Geneva Brighton

ex VAT is pretty much an industry standard for quoting of prices as it is not applicable to the majority of the traditional purchasers of trade lots (ie. traders).
Most suppliers/wholesalers will quote ex VAT, I know all mine do as its the ex VAT price we are interested in.
Anyway off on the stag do, will be back around monday
