Default VAT & Import Duties!

I am now dealing with a new supplier and placing some pretty large orders, well £2K +. Basically, the supplier is under declaring the value of the stock before sending it to me and I have not asked for this to be done. OK, its good that I rarely have to pay Import Duties and if i do its a fraction of what I expect.

What are the legalities of this if the package was to be opened who would HM Revenue & Customs Contact. Really, what will I have done wrong I have not asked them to do this?

Any Help would be great, Thanks.

If its your name on the package then you are liable, duty evasion is an offence punishable by a fine and imprisonment.

Hi tom456
The legalities really depend on what you are importing and where you are importing it from as all goods being imported are given a classifications the Customs Tariff groups all goods into various classifications in order to arrive at a rate of Duty, so as i said it really depends on what your importing and where from and whether duty has allready been paid on it. for more information look here http://www.sloanefox.freeserve.co.uk/index.htm
But whether you pay it as it comes through customs or not it may get differed and you will get a bill it the post sometime later requesting the amount owed for which you must pay without fail.
Hope this helps

Chris
