Default Importing tents from china

Im looking at importing some tents from china 102 are costing me £1600 including delivery they occupy 3.3 cubic meters.

The questions I have are

1. What is the best way to pay the manufacturer in china and are you covered if they dont arrive?

2. When they get to port in the uk, what charges will i incurr (approx)

3. How will i know that they have arrived in port? they will be shipped as part of a container, who empties the container and where are they kept when they arrive?

4. Can i just go to the port in my van and collect the goods or should i arrange delivery?

5. Im a first time importer are there any "golden rules" i should follow, im worried obviously about been ripped off!

Thanks for your replys
Andy

1. The best way of payment is L/C, it will ensure the shipment truly , but if it is a small value(i.e. £1600 ), there has a big bank handling charge.

2. The usual charges including import tax,VAT, carrier and/or forwarder clear fee,and so on.

3. When the shipment was completed, you can get the copy of B/L from Shipper, you can track the ETA, and get other data from the agents of discharging port. Surely, for 3.3 cubic meters, they will be shipped as part of a container, and balance spaces will fill ohter (UK buyers) goods, it is no effect for the final clear customs.

4. Absolutely, when the clear customs was completed, you can go to the port in my van and collect the goods.

As per your saying, the payment is T/T in advance, for the buyer, there has a big risk. Because it is a small value( £1600 ), so the above is normal.

My advice is that you should have negotiated with the person, and persuaded the person to accept the terms of payment: 30% T/T in advance and 70% balance again B/L copy.

Regarding the company "Eastern Nova", the full name is "Eastern Nova Outdoor Equipments Co., Ltd.", but I can't found the Chinese name, so I can't confirmed if it is a manufactory, I can only say that there have large numbers of outdoor equipments company in Fujian China.

Whois information for the company at http://whois.domaintools.com/easternnova.com

I would stay away from the website, the website is not registered to the company name"Eastern Nova Outdoor Equipments Co., Ltd."

A bank copy id the form you fill out in the branch and stamped by the branch to show you have sent the money (they usually start production on the strength of the copy).

If you are doing it online, just make a screen dump of the payment details/confirmation.
