Hi, I was just wondering if anyone knows if their are any possible problems, (legal or otherwise) caused by a company sending wholesale goods from the USA to Britain and labeling them as a "Gift".

Thanks

Jamie

Yes and No. Customs tend to check packages randomly. If yours gets caught out, they will probably flag your address(assuming they are being sent to your address every time) and add it to their database. So in the future, if you import something, your goods will be definitely checked. Dont take those customs guys for fools. They're pretty damn knowledgeable

Other than that, by marking as a gift, you're basically dodging tax

taken from our site but can be used as a guide...

Customs law requires that all applicable Duties and Taxes must be paid for shipments entering the UK. By placing an order with eFashionWholesale.com, you agree to pay the duties and taxes charged by Customs at the time of delivery. Customs duty and Value-Added Tax (VAT) will be payable, as follows:
  • Customs duty – Typically 12-20% of product price (based on product characteristics)
  • Tax – Typically 17.5% of total order cost (including shipping cost)

gifts still get vat/duty over a certain value anyway, personal effects can be free under a c3 but you run a very high risk of these being spotted thus could be seized
cheers

Hey Jamie, what happens when your item get lost in the mail and you try to claim insurance. Labeling them as a "Gift" its not good thing.
