I im new to all this wholesale stuff and ive just imported a couple of things from china.My latest package has gone through customs at the airport and has made its way to the tnt depot where it is being held by customs for inspection.Its only 3 items worth about 30 quid plus shipping costs.Any idea how long this process might take?
and if/when i am charged vat/duty how do i pay iy.Do i pay the tnt guy at the door or over the phone to customs or what?

They can be held for a minute or forever. The latter if there is a dispute over the contents. Usually if the goods are Kosher they will not be held in customs for more than a couple of days. There is no official time scale.
As for the billing, TNT will normally bill you which you then send a cheque fo the payment.

Unless you phone up and ask them though you won't know that you have been charged VAT, also they can take a while to send you an invoice, which are on 30 days payment terms.
If you are getting inpatient they can normally tell you quite a bit of information if you phone them.
