Exclamation Can i claim back VAT on kids clothes????

Well heres the question:
I ordered some kids clothing from america, they arrived as promised but on the docket attached to the parcel there was no specification of them being kids clothes, they were just marked as cotton shirts and therefore i was charged the full 17.5% VAT.Now correct me if im wrong but i thought kids clothing was zero rated when it comes to VAT so is it possible to claim it back?Any help would be great!!

As the commercial invoice incorrectly described the contents you little or no chance of an appeal.

Yes. There are a number of things which are not written in tablets of stone. One of these is that mistakes can be corrected. You cannot be reasonably punished for somebody else's mistake, so of course you can ask them to correct it.

If they won't, however, you will have to foot the VAT bill.

By the way, it's not a re-invoice, unless they cancel the old one. Rather, it is a correction to it.

Yup. Simple as that. As an overseas supplier, they may well not be aware of the distinction in British tax law between adult and childrens' clothing. When you explain there is a difference, they shouldn't find it too much trouble to help you.
