Last week I bought 40 ipod nano 8gb, and 20 8gb ipod touch.

They are being shipped today by my supplier, so should be in the uk within a week or so.

Never imported ipods from the us before (just changed my supplier)

Was wondering, if anyone knows how long they will be held by customs for.

I have asked my supplier to declare what they are and the full amount, because as I know from experience it is the only way!

Also How much I am likley to be charged from us Percentage wise.

I think abou 20%, but maybe wrong.

All answers will be much appreciated!

I've never had any Customs clearence problems. Should be instant if they're legit. For MP4 Player I get charged 2% duty. So yes about 20% after VAT.

Thanks for the info D M

Do you import genuine apple ipods then?

Yes they are mp4 new 3rd gen!

When you say instant, do you mean minutes or days?!?!, and how do I go about paying the charges.

Cheers

:-)

It takes around a few to 48 hours maximum, for customs to clear the products good to go. This is usually the case when in comes to electronics in particular. I know this might be coming from a non-UK citizen, but I've import enough to the UK to know about it. And yes, you are correct about the taxes that will be incurred. It hovers around the 20 percentile range.

Clearance takes minutes or even seconds. Up to one day can be quite common also.

If they are held longer than 1 - 2 days there is a problem.

No, I import unbranded mp4 players.

I'm guessing it's being sent by courier? Which courier are you using? They pay on your behalf and then you pay them. Payment varies depending on the courier,.

Thanks for the info.

Dont think there should be a problem, as they are legit, and as I said before there are being declared in full.

When you say " If they are held longer then 1 - 2 days there is a problem"

What would be the likley problem, and what would happen???????

Cheers

Well they will not be released for whatever reason customs see fit or until further investigation if necessary. Usually if they do not have the relevant safety/conformity certification or they believe they are counterfeit or in breach of the brand owners distribution agreements. These are the most common reasons with electronics or branded items.

They will contact you to inform you of the reason in writing which you will then take the appropriate course of action.
