Default company registration number

hi everyone
hope you all had a good christmas

iv been doing a good bit of research about starting up an ebay business, sourcing wholesalers etc etc and i now want to get this going.
iv just found a uk wholesaler that id like to register an account with but they require a company reg. number and VAT number (VAT not needed in my case, correct?)

do i need to register through HM revenue & customs to get started?

You should register with HMRC within three months of trading, anyway. Whether you do so as a limited company, sole trader, or partnership comes down to your own situation. This should not be decided based on getting an account with a supplier. The same applies for VAT registration.

Have you tried contacting the wholesaler and explaining your situation? If you do so in the right manner, they may well allow you to set up an account anyway.

Firstly have you registered your business (could see anywhere saying you have) if not register it now that is for the company registration number. Secondly you can only get V.A.T as a registered business or registered Sole Trader(i think that's correct).

^ I am sure you don't need to be registered as a business to get VAT.
Then again, I did check the form a week or two ago.

Have you tried contacting the wholesaler to see what they say?
Registration and VAT is just a way of verifying if your legit and also not a complete time waster.

I also said registered as a sole trader you need to legally registered as a sole trader at the very least for many reasons tax reasons or you face time in the slammer.
