Default Handed to customs?

.....Might seem a daft Q to most of you,but what does handed to customs really mean?i have used the ms service and when i track the item number it give's me this reply?Iam in the uUK and my item is currently in Coventry,United Kingdom?

it means that it is with cusotms for clearance, it may be cleared straight through or be flagged for inspection

It can take a while to go through having said that so don't bank on the goods tomorrow.

i have never not received an item when it has been handed over to customs in coventry.

normally it takes 2-3 days to clear. I havent used ems for a while but i doubt its changed much.

As long as the goods are safe for entry to the country it will be fine. May hit you with duties though, had some in the past while was in UK that were and some were not.
