Default French Suppliers

Hi all,

I was wondering if someone could help me. I am looking to order some digital camera's from French and have been advised that they will add on 19% french VAT to my order.

But they have advised me I can claim it back in the UK. Does anyone know about this or how I can do it.

Thanks in advance.

Doug

Well, if you are VAT registered, you can treat it as input VAT and set it against your output VAT (sales) on your VAT return. Normally, you would only need to provide them with your VAT number and they wouldn't add the VAT at all.

If you are not registered, however, you will have no choice but to absorb the french vat as a cost of sale.

Thank you very much for your email. I will just have to add a extra column to his price list and add the 19%

Thank you, at least I know now.

I have been told on several occasions that French customs is far stricter than its UK counterpart... anyone had first hand experience?

You going to have to pay VAT
You can reclaim it back if the seller takes part in a vat retail scheme. You will have send a doc within 12 weeks of arrival to say the item left france to claim the vat. Then you will have to pay the VAT at 17.5% here
waste of time for a saving of 1.5%
