Default Import Legalities

On my new website I had a product listed - A silicon skin for the nintendo wii remote manufactured by hori. It was a jap import and was listed as such. I recieved an email froms someone saying to look into correct juridisctional law surrounding importation of products which have primarily use for within asia not the EU or U.K and they advise following IP rights concerning particular products I have available as well as infringment trade policys.

This has come as quite a suprise and scare to me, can anyone shed any light on this?

who is the email from?

There may be some issues, but there may not. If you are selling a genuine product from an approved source, the chances of issues are reduced. Also, if the person writing is not in the UK, they have no immediate jurisdictional power to enforce this request!

Thanks for the reply! Very much appreciated.

It appears to be just a concerned individual. The product that they specifically stated is actually officially licensed by nintendo themselves. Other products on the site all have EAN's and CE markings etc and were purchased from probablyt the biggest entertainment supplier in Asia.

Its happened to us, on more than one occasion (even from members of this forum!).

There usually from people in the same industry, who dislike what you are doing or how you go about business.

As above, don't worry about it. I personally see no problems with what you are doing.

Another large accessory site sells exaclty the same stuff so I'm sure it's all fine. I've rang up business link just to check and they said they'll give me a call back.

Thanks consultant and PT.

Any other comments and queries are appreciated .

I guess the only issue is if someone already has sole distrubution rights in the uk and you are not purchasing through them.

If thats the case I'm sur ethe person who owned the rights would be in touch.

forget it.

I think the difference is that cd-wow's products weren't really designed for UK distribution where as these products are.
