Question Import documentation....

Hi Everyone,

First time poster here.... Have a question that I can find the answer to on Tuesday, but hoping someone can let me know sooner?

When importing to the UK, do you need a certificate of origin for the goods, or is it only needed when there may be exemptions/relief on duty etc ??

Hi and welcome

Most cerificates of origin are for textiles and they are arranged by the appropriate authority in the country you buy them from and then forwarded to you

Thanks Jo for your reply,

Have leisure bags coming over from China, they are due to be shipped any day now, would they be classed as a textile item and need CO?

Not quite sure of the consequences if required by customs and haven't got one...

Hi there - you wouldn't normally need a certificate of origin for bags. Nowadays most goods from China do not attract any preferential duty rates. If your supplier in China can give you a customs tariff code number I can check the aqpplicable duty rate for you.
