Default import duty and VAT on samples

hi, i am aware that I do not have to pay import duty or VAT on samples but how do I go about making sure this remains true and i dont get a bill a month later telling me to pay up.

do i tell the shippers that they are samples? s it the supplier that is supposed to tell them?

help?

thanks for that

need some clarificatin pls:

You can get relief on samples of goods of any kind if, when imported, they:

-can only be used as samples
-are of negligible value and
-are intended to obtain orders for the type of goods they represent.

regarding the last point, does this mean that if i order these goods and show them to potential buyers, they are regarded as samples?

I think it means that if you order as samples, to ensure that if satisfactory you intend to order more for resale purposes.
