Default import calculation?

Hi Its the first time I am importing goods from overseas for my business idea but I am not sure of the costs so i was wondering if someone could tell me what import duties I am likley to pay?
I am importing female clothing dresses and tops, I will be buying around 35 units for the total cost of around 250 GBP and I am guesing shipping will be around 50-60 GBP. What will I be paying for VAT and import duty?

Any help is appreciated

Thanks
Taz

VAT is 17.5% (which you can claim back if VAT registered) , then you will also have import duty on top, but I am not sure what % that is.

Why are you guessing the shipping cost?
Duties are on an individual item basis.... each item has its own code and own duty rate
VAT on purchase and shipping costs.

I had some specialist import software made for me a couple of years back...you put in your cost price in china, fill in all the other costs boxes including commodity codes and rates of duty vat etc and it gives you a landed cost.

If you want to buy it from me id sell you a 1 licence copy for £100.

Hi geosamm
I don't have the exact postage cost because i havn't been properly quoted yet. i bought 5 samples and the postage for 5 dresses was 19 quid so for 35 peices I'd be guessing 50 60 quid, but im waiting for a propper quote yet.

You couldnt do these calculations in a speadsheet if you tried lol!!!

Im not so stupid to pay £1000 for something that could be done in Excel, there is no such package in existance that does anything near what my calculator does!

Dont knock it until youve tried it!

This my vague calculation

stock £250
shipping £60
= £310
+12% duty = £347.20
+17.5% VAT = £407.96
so £98 charges on top of goods for tax?
