Default Customs costs from china

Hi could someone give advice for my friend.
They have purchased a 50" pioneer plasma tv and 2 HP laptops from a chinese company and sent payment by western union.
They were then told china customs had stopped the export due heavy goods or something and had to pay 600 euro, which was sent via the company to pay customs. The goods should now be here in UK in the next couple of days. Can chinese customs do this and what charges are they likely to be hit with when they reach the uk.

Oh holy Mary mother of god.

I'm sorry but I would say your friend has been robbed. YOU CAN'T BUY BRANDED GOODS FROM CHINA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Let me guess the people he bought them off said that chinese customs stopped them and they need to pay money to get them sent? That is wrong, you would have to pay the VAT/Duty when it get's to England. Sorry to say it won't be going to England.

Oh dear! Goodbye hard earned cash. You fell for the classic scam and now they want to scam you for some more money!

Let me guess? You are going to make loads of money on these items as you bought them so cheap? And you paid by Western Union?

he got conned plain and simple, why not put the name of the company in the search and find out if this kind of thing has happened to anyone else with that company , not that it will help you much. but least you will know what others have experienced

Ultimately it's a combination of madness and greed usually.

its how the scammers stay in business of course, by people still falling for this rubbish...
if everyone took the attitude of never buying or seeking to buy branded goods from china then the amount of people being scammed would reduce
dramatically........

As gb mentioned also , the scammers prey on greed and stupidity , sometimes you just need to take a step back and use a bit of common sense and logic ..........
