you know taxes paid are there to improve the quality of life for your nation (supposedly)
you know better roads or natonal security and whatever else although even they are skimmed by government shysters everywhere around the world... so IF you are planning tax avoidance "SHAME ON YOU!!!"

I think you've missed the point of this thread, no-one likes to pay any more tax than they should do, in some cases businesses and people are double taxed and they don't realise it.

Please go and re-read this thread in it's entireity, people just want to pay a fair amount of tax, they're not evading taxes.

What happens when you have a delivery that should incur custom duties and import VAT, but you are not charged on it? Should you regard it as good fortune or could you later be called to account if the authorities scrutinise you and find you didn't volunteer up the appropriate amount?

At some point in time, you will get a VAT inspection in the UK - particularly if you are importing. Believe me it doesn't go unnoticed.

Customs & Excise will diligently check your invoices to see how much you purchased a product for. They will compare it to your bank / paypal statement to confirm that you paid the exact amount of the invoice and they will then check that y ou paid the correct amount of duty. My last VAT inspection was about 18 months ago and I am expecting another one soon.

I think that it is something many of ther so-called bedroom sellers on here forget when they are getting goods into the Uk and their supplier is marking down the price. If you don't inform HMRC that there is a discrepancy and pay the extra to them, you are in for a bumpy ride !

It WILL come home to roost - when I see some of the prices that guys are selling at, I KNOW they aren't paying all the VAT/duty they should have.

I actually find that I get charged according to the strength of the pound. The items that I bought before the pound collapsed did not attract Vat, but they do now.
