Default Newbie...

Sorry to sound stupid but, I am in the process of setting up my own online store using a drop shipper.
My question is when I price my goods, do I state "plus VAT" or do I simply sell on for a fixed price? Are there any regulations I need to know about relating to charging VAT to my customers?
If I DO charge VAT, should I be recording that seperately in my accounts for reporting to the Inland Revenue?
Any advice would be very much appreciated!

You can only charge VAT if you are VAT registered.
If your supplier charges you VAT, then you will just have to add that into your price or use it as a postage charge (unless you will be VAT registered of course)

Hey there,

I'm writing a little Vat/Duty Calculator program thingy that's based on the VAT charges sheet found here : Official Customs/Vat Charges

I need to do an Aussie one but your Import Duty seem much simpler some I'm doing a UK one first. (So I was bored ok )

Anyway planning to share it here when it's done. I'm not sure how to Calculate the charges though.
I'm guessing : Apply the duty percentage first, And then tax the lot with VAT ?

Or... work out the duty, then the VAT and then apply those amounts to the initial value?

Also the shipping fee's, are these include in the taxable amount? (they are in Australia)
Or would the shipping fee's be excluded for the calculations?

Thanks in Advance,

Jeremy

Buy the way I don't even know what Excise is
