i am going to be importing some items from china for my first time soon.

the whole things just seems very daunting atm.

im just trying to figure out how you pay all these fees.

i understand i am going to pay 27% (15% VAT and 12% customs duty, correct me if im wrong.) because the items cost more than £18.

but how do i pay this.
do i pay it when the item gets delievered to my door step? and i pay the delivery man cash in hand or what? do i go to my post office and pay?

also are there any other hidden fees like handling fees etc?

help greatly appreciated many thanks

If its UPS delivering you will have to pay the driver cash when he delivers. If your using DHL they will send youa bill about 2 weeks after you receive the package. If EMS then Parcelforce will deliver AFTER you have paid your charges - you will receive a letter once it arrives at your local depot.

All couriers charge handling fees varying from £8 to £15 typically - Parcelforce charge fixed rate of £13.50 per shipment where as DHL and UPS depend on how much the package is valued at.

It seems you have a lot of questions directed at DHL. It might be worth the cost of a phone call.
