What value before I have to pay VAT & Import Tax

Hi,

hoping someone can help me out here.

I am looking at importing some goods from Hong Kong from DX. Am I right in thinking that if I keep my orders below the value of £20, that I will not have to pay any VAT or Import duty on top? Acording to www.dutycalculator.com, I will not have to pay anything, but I have just read its below that and the maximum is £7 in value to pay VAT on top on another post on these forums.

Any advice really would be appreciated.

The figure is £18 however anything from DX is delivered by Royal Mail and if in small packets the chance of it getting inspected & you being charged duty & vat is very slim.
Ive had lots of packets fron DX all over £18 & never had to pay duties once.

So basically keep each of my orders below £18 and there is no problem?

Just factor in that it might cost you an extra 20% ish,if they dont get inspected then youve made 20% more profit
