Sell goods to China & Import duty (China)
Hi everyone,
I am about to launch a website to sell goods to China. I am new to international trade so here am asking for experienced people's advices.
When customers come to my website, they will see the goods price and shipping cost. The goods price will include VAT in the UK. So, the customers will only pay the price of goods plus shipping cost (eg. DHL express delievery within 5 days) through my website. But, when the goods go through Chinese customs will be charged import duty. My question is, who will and how to handle this? I understand the buyers in China should pay it, but will they be billed seperately from Chinese customs? Or DHL will charge it in their shipping cost then pay to the Chinese customs on behalf of the buyers? Nothing to do with me, isn't it?
I am so confused! Please anyone could help??
Thanks in advance!

Re: Sell goods to China & Import duty (China)
I wouldn't publish your prices including taxes. You should publish your base price, plus any shipping costs and then perhaps include some information on the liabilities that buyers may incur when importing them to their respected countries.
The buyers will face their own charges, in the case of DHL, they will usually send the customer a bill which they must pay before the delivery can be made. If they are regular importers, it will be on an account basis. UK Importers will usually require a TURN number from customs.

Thank you very much!! Which means, the logistic company will handle it with the buyers. Relief! By any chance, do you know where can I check the import duty rate in different countries?
Cheers!

You would need to look on the various governmental websites. Your buyers should already be aware of the duty rates really.
For the UK, all of the relevant information can be found on the HMRC website.

Re: Sell goods to China & Import duty (China)
The standard rate of VAT in China is 17%, there's also a consumption tax.
