Hi there,

First post.

I am looking into importing unbranded electronic accessories.

Do I need the products to have a certificate or anything before I re-sell them in the UK?

Can I pass the manufacturer's warranty onto the customer?

Will I be charged import tax straight at customs if they are unbranded?

Anyone recommend any unbranded electronic accessory supplier / manufacturers?

Thanks

Hi,

You could check with your supplier if the products you are importing has a CE Certificate. This is a certificate that means the product has passed European regulations.

You can pass manufacturers warranty onto the customer, as it is you who has the warranty from the manufacturer, so if the customer comes to you with a fault, as long as the fault is noticed within the time frame of the warranty, the manufacturer would take it back. But of course, the manufacturers warranty wouldn't include things like scratches etc.

Depending on the product, there is different levels of taxes, with VAT and Duty tax being the two different elements to look at. If you search on this forums, you will find a document giving these taxes for each catagory.

Nobody will give away their suppliers names. You'll learn that pretty quick. Have a good search, you'll have to put in a lot of time to find the perfect supplier, but it is worth it.

Good luck.

Thanks for the reply,

Just wondering is it the law to have your products tested and have a CE certificate. There is so much unbranded stuff on ebay and most don't say anything about certificates or a warranty.

Can you sell products without a certificate if you don't mention it has one?

Cheers

Hi,

I currently have one supplier, and they supply me with CE Certificates. But I am sure they never get checked. I am currently finding other suppliers of other products, and I insist on getting a CE Certificate (most of them can't supply them, saying that I would need to order 5000pcs to cover the cost of getting the Certificate).

To sum up, I don't think they are checked and are not necessary. If your supplier can't give you the certificates, go through thorough checks when the product arrives to you to make sure they are up to scratch, but push your supplier for them first of all.

goods without a CE mark could be stopped and destroyed at customs. Even goods with a CE mark on could be held at customs and they can ask for a copy of CE certificate before releasing, be aware many chinese goods are claimed and stamped but do not have a genuine CE certificate.

If there is a problem and someone gets hurt or equipment gets damaged and your product is found to be illegal (not certified) you can end up in a world of hurt.
