Hey there,

New to importing/exporting etc, and it looks very lucrative. Just wondered, for clothing it is around 12% still right? Is that 12% of the VALUE of goods in Britain to be sold at, or is that 12% of the value of my purchase (The value of the goods to me) ?

I understand that on top of this 12% there is also the VAT ?

Please confirm this Cheers.

From what I understand it's 12% on the price you paid.

Just had a look at your pdf file, it says computers are free. Does that Include pc parts also? I.E. Motherboards processers etc.

Yes it is. There are different ways to working out the duty, but each one must be tried consecutively so it is likely the first one will be applied.

The only other thing to note is that they may use a different method, or apply a different amount if they have reason to believe the value has purposely been marked down (e.g. 10 iPhones for a tenner each just isn't gonna happen). This happened to someone before who was buying in a fake item and they applied the UK RRP of a genuine to work out the duty! (of course he was lucky they didn't realise and confiscate them because they were actually made right down to the packaging to look like the real thing)

I dont know the actual rate, but don't assume it is 0% simply because a PC itself is. The duty rates seem really bizarre sometimes.

For example, a car stereo attracts a duty rate of 14% - whereas a car stereo with a touchscreen attracts 0% duty!!
